Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have followed the guidance and recommendations of the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association and the Ohio Department of Health. Their recommended protocols are as follows:
Coach Responsibilities (Recommended)
∙ Ensure the health and safety of the participants.
∙ Inquire how the athletes are feeling. Send home anyone you believe acts or looks ill.
∙ Follow all state and local health protocols and guidelines.
∙ Ensure all athletes have their own equipment (ball, water, bag etc.)
∙ Take responsibility for handling your coaching equipment. If using a scrimmage vest at practices, be sure to wash the vest after each use. It is recommended when assigning a vest to a player at practice, or warm-up before a game, then that player is the only individual who wears that particular vest for that training or warmup. Consider asking players to bring both light and dark t-shirts to each practice.
∙ All training should be conducted outdoors and compliant with social distancing per state or local health guidelines.
∙ Coaches should maintain social distance requirements from players based on state and local health requirements. It is recommended to wear a face mask, especially when unable to social distance.
∙ Have fun, stay positive – players and parents are looking to you for leadership.
Parent Responsibilities (Recommended)
∙ Ensure your child is healthy and check your child’s temperature before activities with others.
∙ When possible, limit carpooling.
∙ Adhere to social distance requirements, based on state and local health requirements.
∙ If unable to social distance, the recommendation is to wear a mask.
∙ It is recommended to wash your child’s clothing after every practice and game.
∙ It is recommended to sanitize all equipment (cleats, ball, shin guards etc.) before and after every training.
∙ Notify GSE organization immediately if your child is diagnosed with COVID-19 or if an immediate family of your child has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
∙ It is recommended to provide sanitizing products to your child at their training and games.
Players Responsibilities (Recommended)
∙ Take your temperature before activities with others.
∙ Wash hands thoroughly before and after training.
∙ Bring, and use, hand sanitizer with you at every training.
∙ Wear a mask before and immediately after all training.
∙ Don’t share anyone else’s equipment, water, food, or bags.
∙ Practice social distancing. It is recommended to place bags and equipment at least 6 feet apart.
∙ Wash and sanitize all equipment before and after every training.
∙ It is recommended to avoid group celebrations, high-5s, hugs, handshakes, fist-bumps, etc.
In the event we are notified of a positive COVID-19 result for a player, coach, or referee, we will notify the age group impacted and any other individuals who were potentially exposed. We will not share names or other private information.
Our goal is to provide recommendations that will help minimize the risk of infection. Our expectation is for everyone to do their best to adhere to the guidelines we have outlined above.
If anyone decides to opt-out of the Fall soccer season due to lack of comfort with our safety protocols, we will provide a full refund of the registration fee.
